Bilingual Books for Vashon’s Spanish-Speaking Children

Last year when Rotary agreed to build a bookshelf for the Spanish Community on the island, Church of the Holy Spirit, along with the Vashon School District, committed to donating books to stock the shelves. With input from the Spanish speaking community, the request was made for children’s bilingual books and sets of English/Spanish books. The Outreach Committee came up with a master list of books in Spanish and English. With donations from our parishioners, last February we donated 90 books. To keep the Little Free Library’s shelves full, our plan is to collect money for these books twice a year – around Thanksgiving and in the springtime after Easter.

We are working closely with the Vashon Bookshop, which gives us a 20% discount. Please think about donating to this good cause. Make your checks out to the Vashon Bookshop and bring them to the church office by November 28, be sure to put CHS on the memo line. The Vashon Bookshop would prefer that the few members of the outreach committee bring in the donations, rather than individuals dropping off checks with them.
